Dale,
As I read this post, shortly after analyzing tomorrow’s auction run lists it definitely hits home. In speaking with our buyers as well as other dealers this same inventory issue is a hot topic of discussion. I had a buyer tell me today that an Avalanche he figured for $32000 sold at an auction for $38000…..I know we all like to rip a few cars when we can but this is a very experienced buyer so I’m fairly certain he wasn’t $6000 off on his appraisal. We had a buyer at a sale today that we normally count on for 8-12 vehicles per week get shut out after only 1 last week and 2 the week before.

With all this being said, I still hold true to the belief that the wholesale buying decisions being made by what seems to be most dealers in today’s volatile market are dangerous, uneducated to the retail reality decisions that will be regretted soon. We will continue to buy fewer vehicles per source based upon retail market conditions and continue to add sources to find cars.
