
It wasn’t all that long ago that online advertising was relatively new. Today, as online buying becomes increasingly sophisticated, it’s not uncommon for online buyers to go beyond make and model in their used vehicle searches to include keywords such as “repair records included,” “garage kept” and “one owner car“.
I had a conversation with a long-time friend, Mitch Golub of Cars.com and he confirms that he is seeing this trend in online consumer shopping habits and dealer online merchandising. “Car Dealers have got to go beyond a VIN decode for their vehicle descriptions. These types of keywords are going to become more and more important.”
I believe we have got to put the necessary time and effort into creating compelling online descriptions. Please let me know your thoughts. How are you hitting online car shopper’s emotional hot buttons?

Keywords are becoming a priority in the descriptions in order to compete online. If you do not use catch phrase or keywords the chances are the consumer may skip over your vehicle. We take a look at each vehicle and try to add what makes that vehicle stand out into the description. We have found that it is not a cure-all, but it helps to catch the eye of the consumer.

We began marketing ad copy creation very much like a vendor providing services such as ding removal (pdr), leather/interior refurbishing, wheel refinishing… to create the frontline ready product. Occasionally there is the individual who has the ability to produce the compelling copy but we can do it 100% of the time.

To improve the search results, Google likes to omit duplicate pages and show us just one page to look at (makes sense doesn’t it?). Google has problems with ALL auto dealer sites because it can’t tell one 2007 Chevrolet Impala from another 2007 Impala.
For example, let’s say we have six 2008 Ford Explorer’s for sale. In 99% of my research findings, Google see them as duplicates. It shows one, hides 5. The ONLY way to combat that is to present enough unique text to make them stand apart. Yes… there are differences between these “similar” vehicles, all 6 have different stock#’s, paints, miles and VINs, but this is not enough text to make them stand apart. You need MORE text to make Google see them as unique and the AutoWriter is your magic wand to make each unit unique.
Better Google listings = More sales = Smart ROI!

Consumers definitely will skip over a dealer that lists a bunch of vehicles with no individual descriptions, and only the info from the VIN decode. If you can’t even be bothered to list real options or transmission, why have vehicle listings? Yet how many dealers let their online inventory be described by default base model specs, and “Installed options” like POWER STEERING? Who wants to see an entire lot of manual trans cars? How many shoppers will look at that and say the hell with it, I want an auto? Believe me, they DON’T “contact us”.
Dealers need to see online inventory as a store. No one likes a store where all the mdse is hidden in plain white boxes and you must talk to someone to find out what’s inside. Put the mdse out for all to see!
