Brian Benstock, the nations #1 used Honda Certified dealer, told me today, “When I go to the bank to make a deposit, they don’t ask me whether it was front or back-end gross.”
The “back end” on a lease is a lot easier to make than on a retail contract. It amazes me more F&I and desk managers don’t take better advantage, especially on pre-owned. Of course, the OEM might cap you on a subvention, but that’s not a factor with pre-owned.
David, Thank you so much for your thoughts. I personally think that used car leasing is an untapped opportunity for most dealers. It is particularly relevant to retailers of used high-line vehicles. Specifically those dealers that are being leaned on by their manufacturer to buy the off-lease vehicles in order to earn incentives on new ones.
